The foundation occasionally initiates special initiatives that align with its overall vision of identifying and supporting the leading researchers of the future.
The foundation collaborates with six other private research funders – the Erling-Persson Foundation, the Kempe Foundations, the Knowledge Foundation, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, the Olle Engkvist Foundation and the ÅForsk Foundation – on the Swedish Foundations’ Starting Grant. The initiative gives researchers who received the highest rating in the European Research Council’s Starting Grant call but could not be funded because of limitations in the EU budget another opportunity to receive funding at national level.
The foundation provided a founding donation to the Young Academy of Sweden when it was established and has continued to support its activities ever since.
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings are annual meetings where Nobel Laureates and young researchers come together to discuss science. Together with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (the Academy), we select and fund the Swedish participants.
The foundation’s most recent special initiative is the KRAFT think tank, which aims to create a forum for dialogue between decision-makers and researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
The foundation has previously funded a number of endowed professorships at the universities of Gothenburg, Lund and Stockholm, as well as at the Stockholm School of Economics and Karolinska Institutet.
