Project summary

Exploring whether conflicts in wildlife management stem from shortcomings in the legal framework

There are differing views on how Sweden’s wild ungulate populations should be managed, with potential conflicts of interest between stakeholders such as forest owners, hunters and farmers. In the project “Managing conflicts within the wild ungulate legal framework”, the researchers will examine the role that the legal framework plays in creating or contributing to such disagreements and conflicts of interest.

Wildlife management is governed by legal frameworks at both national and EU level. By examining these frameworks in detail, the researchers aim to determine whether the current legal framework is sufficient to avoid and prevent conflicts between different stakeholders. If not, they will explore how a more effective legal framework could be implemented to promote cooperation rather than conflict.

Elisabeth and Åsa are both Senior Lecturers at the Department of Law at Stockholm University.
