Resource management in nonprofit organizations: How volunteer management practices shape service quality and beneficiary satisfaction in nonprofit organizations.
Volunteers play a central role in civil society and are essential to the ability of non-profit organisations to carry out their activities and provide a range of services. Despite this, research to date has focused primarily on how volunteers are recruited and retained, rather than on how volunteer management affects non-profit organisations and their activities. In this research project, Momcheva and Parsa will study how non-profit organisations can develop their approaches to volunteer management in ways that support volunteer well-being while maintaining high-quality services and ensuring the satisfaction of those who benefit from them.
The project focuses on Sweden, a high-trust society where non-profit organisations are expected to operate professionally and be accountable for their activities. Momcheva and Parsa will use a combination of methods, including interviews, observational studies and large-scale surveys. This will enable them to explore the different perspectives of both volunteers and the beneficiaries of non-profit organisations and the services they provide. The researchers will also conduct a field study in which they implement a volunteer management system and evaluate its outcomes.
The project is expected to generate both theoretical and practical insights. By developing better approaches to volunteer management, civil society organisations can increase the impact of their activities and, in doing so, contribute to social development.
Antoaneta Momcheva and Iman Parsa are both based at the Department of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology at the Stockholm School of Economics.
