The journey to publishing a scientific article

Nine years ago, Olof Ejermo, Kerstin Enflo, Björn Eriksson and Jing Xiao received a grant from us to study how Swedish emigrants returning from America influenced entrepreneurship in Sweden. Last year, the final (?) article from the project was published, and the journey to that point is an important reminder that research often takes time.

It began with a project proposal submitted to the foundation in 2016. Once the project was awarded funding, the researchers set to work collecting and analysing data. Since then, the research has resulted in several scientific presentations and articles in various contexts.

This illustration follows the researchers’ journey – and the challenges they encountered along the way – in publishing the scientific article Home Sweet Home: Returns to Returning in the Age of Mass Migration in the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics.
